The Film Screening & Book Reading
Coffee and Cigarettes (2003)
Thursday 2 October
7pm (doors open 6.30pm)
£5 per person
Mincine and The Gallery at Munro House present a screening of Jim Jarmusch’s 2003 film Coffee and Cigarettes. A comic series of short vignettes built on one another to create a cumulative effect, as the characters discuss things as diverse as caffeine popsicles, Paris in the ’20s, and the use of nicotine as an insecticide–all the while sitting around sipping coffee and smoking cigarettes. As director Jim Jarmusch delves into the normal pace of our world from an extraordinary angle, he shows just how absorbing the obsessions, joys and addictions of life can be, if truly observed.
The Bitter Trade (2014)
We will open the evening with a reading by author Piers Alexander, from his novel ‘The Bitter Trade’ (2014), a historical adventure set in London’s coffeehouses during the Glorious Revolution of 1688.
Tickets are £5, including entry to both events.
